The design phase of a project is one of the most crucial components of a successful solution. Most projects are identified to solve a problem, upgrade existing processes, or complete a new facility. The planning process is where all of your requirements for time, cost, and the end result are developed.

At Matrix-NDI we work with you to plan out every detail of your project so that the expectations are clearly defined. We want you to be happy with the project before, during, and after working with us. In order to achieve this we need everyone to be on the same page throughout the entire process.

The Beginning of the Design Process

We begin by taking a look at your existing hardware, network, and communication systems. This is important for helping us understand the lifecycle of the products you currently have so we can make accurate recommendations for new installations or upgrades. We want what we do to seamlessly integrate with your existing environment. What we discuss will depend on what type of project you are looking to complete, but a few examples of items we look at are:

The age and quality of your existing low voltage cabling
The amount of bandwidth you currently have
The projected lifecycle of your network equipment
The type and age of phone system you currently use
How you store your data
The physical and cybersecurity practices you have in place

These are simply examples of areas that we will explore. The more complex your project is, the more in-depth our analysis of your environment will be. Our goal is to make sure that any upgrades, installs, or maintenance works with what you currently have.

Analyzing your current IT environment is an invaluable step in the project design process. This helps ensure that what you are hoping to achieve with your project will integrate well with your existing network infrastructure. Technology evolves very quickly so it is important to understand if the implementation of a new system will work for you. For example: If you are hoping to transition to cloud-based data storage and a hosted phone system, we need to ensure that you have the proper structured cabling and wireless access points in place to support that level of internet traffic.

You have identified a need, now we need to define the requirements to fulfill it. During this phase of the project design process we talk about your ideal timeline, budget, and the number of locations included. These are the basic components that help us present product options that will fit within your budget while reaching the goals you set for the solution. For larger projects that include many locations across the country, we will discuss having a dedicated project manager to help with scheduling, procurement, and documentation packaging.

After we have analyzed your current IT environment and defined the scope of your project we can fine-tune and finalize the project. This step involves revisiting the plan we have developed to ensure that any potential barriers for success are proactively considered. Challenges and changes are bound to come up during a project and we want to make sure that your business functions are not interrupted. Once you are comfortable with the the design of the project we can move forward with the implementation.
